Merry Christmas Eve Eve! Hope you’re all excited and well prepared for one of the best days in the year, CHRISTMAS! This also means we’re approaching the end of #TCRXmas, which ends on 25th. But we have more posts you can enjoy and three more giveaways of brilliant books. Today, I have the pleasure to welcome lovely Hilary Grossman to my blog. I met Hilary during my first year on twitter and she’s been such a huge support of my work. I was over the moon when she asked me to review her debut ‘DANGLED CARAT’, which is a brill mixture of chick lit and memoir because the story is based on Hilary’s life. I really loved it and you can read my review HERE. In October this year, Hilary published her second novel, ‘PLAN BEA’, which I’m very excited about as lovely Hilary named a character after me (Annabel, my name is Ana) so it’s already a VERY special book to me. I’ll be reviewing it soon, so stay tuned. Now, Hilary’s written a FAB letter to Santa and she’s also kindly donating TWO E-BOOKS of DANGLED CARAT as a prize for you. Read on for her post and make sure you enter the giveaway. Many thanks to brilliant Hilary for being part of my Christmas countdown and donating prizes for my awesome readers and supporters.
It’s Hilary. Remember me? Probably not… That’s okay. I understand. After all it has been a very, very, very long time since I wrote you last. In case I didn’t mention it before, the Barbie Dream House you gave me when I was six was cherished for many years! So were all the Barbie’s – even the ones I gave horrible haircuts too.
When Ana told me you read her blog I was so excited (and not surprised at all). After all, I remembered how you always gave me great books to read. I always wondered how you knew just exactly what I would like. But now I realize, in addition to elves, you have friends in big book places J
Well, back to me. I have been a very, very good girl this year. (Okay – maybe two “verys” is pushing it… But intentions should count right?) So, as I was saying, I’ve been sort of nice this year…. And I am hoping you can make my Christmas wish come true….
In the years that we haven’t chatted (written or emailed) I’ve changed a lot. Things that used to matter to me so much aren’t that important anymore. I spent so many years trying to buy my happiness. I have a jam packed closet full of jeans, shoes, and fun jewelry items to prove it. But as I got older, I realized material items mattered less and less to me. Now don’t get me wrong, I still can’t pass up a shoe sale (I am only human after all), but my happiness is no longer dependent on the high of swiping my credit card and scurrying out of a store with a big bag.
I have found joy in other ways. I fell in love. I rescued a kitten from a kill shelter. I made a home. I achieved professional success. And I accomplished my life long dream of writing not one but two books.
I should be so happy. But sometimes I am not. And I know it is my own fault. I am my own worst enemy (always have been). I struggle to stay in the “now”. I put unrealistic pressures on myself. I focus not on what I am doing right, but what went wrong. I sweat all the small stuff.
I’ve been trying to work on this problem, Santa. Really I have. But I can use a little help. So Santa, my Christmas wish is to spend this holiday season in the moment. I want to enjoy all the happiness that surrounds me. I want to focus on all the good. And also, I want to help spread holiday cheer to others too… After all, isn’t that the spirit of the season?
Oh, and if your elves have a little extra time, I wouldn’t complain if I found a pair of Christian Louboutin’s under my fireplaceJ (Hey, old habits die hard)
