It’s day 15 of #TCRXmas and today I have the pleasure to welcome lovely Darcie Boleyn to my blog. Darcie’s debut ‘Wish Upon a Christmas Cake’ was published by Carina in October and you can read my review of it HERE. Darcie’s also kindly donated AN E-BOOK OF ‘WISH UPON A CHRISTMAS CAKE’ to one of my blog readers, so make sure you enter after reading her post. Many thanks to lovely Darcie for being part of #TCRXmas and donating a prize.
One of the things I love the most about Christmas is the build up. The day itself is wonderful but it just wouldn’t be the same without the excitement of the preparations.
I enjoy making sweet, spiced mincemeat for mince pies, chutneys to serve with cheese and cold meats and this year I’ve already made my own Christmas cake too! All of these delicious goodies make my home smell mouth-wateringly festive, and a firm family favourite at this time of year is my homemade mulled wine. It’s perfect to serve when we have guests, when decorating the tree and listening to Christmas carols, or when curling up with a lovely Christmas book.
I’m sharing my recipe with you today. Hope you enjoy it, perhaps as you snuggle up in front of a roaring fire to read Wish Upon a Christmas Cake.J
What do you like to make at this time of the year? Do you have any family recipes you’d like to share?
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas!
Darcie’s Mulled Wine
This is a firm family favourite – adults only, of course!
2 bottles of red wine
2oz/60g brown sugar
2 oranges – 1 sliced and 1 left whole
1 lemon sliced
1 cinnamon stick
1 teaspoon of grated nutmeg
60ml/2floz of sloe gin or Cointreau
Stud one of the oranges with the cloves.
Put the wine, sugar, spices and fruit – including the clove studded orange – into a large saucepan and heat gently. Do not boil.
Taste then add more sugar if required.
Remove from the heat and stir in the sloe gin or Cointreau.
Strain carefully into heatproof glasses.
Garnish with a slice of orange or lemon.

Katie Warham has just one wish this year…to have the best Christmas ever!
If only she could lock herself away in a cloud of flour and sugar at her cosy little tearoom, Crumbtious Cakes, instead of spending the festive season trapped with her judgemental mother, crazy Aunt Gina and loved-up celebrity brother Carl…
But Katie never expected her ex-boyfriend, widower Sam – and his two adorable children – to turn up on her doorstep. She didn’t think that any man could tempt her under the mistletoe this year, but Sam might just prove the exception! And as the snow begins to fall and Katie puts the final touches to her famous Christmas cake, she begins to wonder, could her Christmas wish actually come true?
Thanks to lovely Darcie I’m giving away an E-BOOK of ‘Wish Upon a Christmas Cake’. The giveaway is open INTERNATIONALLY and closes on 24th December. Winner will be contacted by e-mail or on twitter and will have 48 hours to claim their prize. If we don’t hear from them, we’ll pick a new winner. Best of luck, guys and thanks for reading!
