today we have the pleasure to welcome fabulous Sophie Hart to our blog. In July this year she published her latest ‘The Girl’s Guide to Getting Hitched’ which we loved and reviewed (read our review HERE). As her book is about weddings and lovely friendships, she’s here to talk about weddings. All weddings are beautiful in my opinion, but she’s here to talk about the ultimate, most extravagant celebrity weddings! Read on for her post and make sure you grab ‘The Girl’s Guide to Getting Hitched’ which we definitely recommend. Many thanks to lovely Sophie for taking the time to visit today!
Hello, and thanks so much for inviting me onto your blog! My latest novel, The Girl’s Guide to Getting Hitched, was out on 17th July with Bookouture, and as the title suggests it’s all about weddings. I recently got engaged too, so both my fictional and real worlds are chock-full of country house venues and cake tastings and big white dresses!
For inspiration, I thought it might be fun to run through the ultimate celebrity weddings, from real-life princesses to Hollywood royalty…
Prince William & Kate Middleton – What girl doesn’t want to be a princess? Well, perhaps without all that pesky paparazzi intrusion and having to look perfect 24/7. But we swooned and aaahed as these two said their vows in front of the nation and we all got a day off work. A royal wedding that made us believe in fairy-tale endings.
Kate Moss & Jamie Hince – The supermodel is known for doing things her own way, and her wedding was always going to be spectacular and unique. It completely lived up to that, with Kate wearing a vintage-inspired gown designed by bad-boy John Galliano, with her daughter, Lila, as a bridesmaid. In true rock ‘n’ roll style, the Cotswolds church ceremony was followed by three days of partying.
Peter Andre & Katie Price – Yes, I know they’re both happily (ahem) married to other people, and embroiled in a court case even as I type, but cast your minds back to that heady day in 2005 when the groom wore white and the bride wore pink. That dress! That hair! Those tears!
David Beckham & Victoria Adams – This golden couple have come a long way since he was a less-than-polished Manchester United player, and she was a pouting Spice Girl. They married in an Irish castle, complete with infamous gold thrones. Fifteen years later, they’ve got four gorgeous children and a multi-millionaire pound empire covering sport, fashion and big brand endorsements.
Grace Kelly & Prince Rainier – From Hollywood royalty to actual royalty. Grace Kelly had appeared in some of Tinseltown’s biggest movies in the 1950s (including Rear Window and To Catch a Thief) when she met Prince Rainier at the Cannes film festival. It wasn’t all romance though – the prince was looking for a wife, to provide him with an heir, and her parents had to pay a $2 million dowry in order for the wedding to go ahead.
Mick Jagger & Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias – Known from then on as Bianca Jagger, this rock ‘n’ roll bride was four months pregnant when she and Mick married in St Tropez. Her chic outfit became instantly iconic: a YSL white ‘Le Smoking’ tuxedo jacket, with nothing underneath, teamed with a white maxi skirt and an enormous, veiled, wide-brimmed hat.
George Clooney &Amal Alamuddin–Yes, this is the marriage that took Hollywood’s most eligible bachelor off the market and prompted brilliant headlines such as ‘Internationally Acclaimed Barrister Marries an Actor’. The pair were married in Venice, with Amal wearing a custom-made Oscar de la Renta gown, and they’re now rumoured to be trying for a baby…
Kim Kardashian & Kanye West –Third time lucky for Kim? After two failed marriages, Kimye look like a perfect fit. He proposed in a baseball stadium, as a 50-piece orchestra played her favourite Lana Del Rey song. They married in Italy in spectacular style and, like everything else in Kim’s life, the day was caught on camera for her reality show.
