today we have the pleasure to welcome lovely Emily Benet to our blog. Emily is the author of ‘#PleaseRetweet’, which was released by Harper Impulse as kindle in the summer and recently as paperback. We absolutely enjoyed #PLEASERETWEET and you can read our review HERE. It’s currently just 99p for the kindle, so we strongly advise you to head straight to amazon and download a copy of this hilarious rom com. Big thanks to Emily for visiting our blog and for the lovely guest post.
It’s funny to think I couldn’t have written #PleaseRetweet before March 2006 because Twitter hadn’t been invented yet. Life before Twitter… Do you remember it? What about life before Facebook? We must have had so much more time!
Social media addiction is at the heart of my new romantic comedy. My main character, May Sparks, is employed to look after the online profiles of C-list celebrities. Badly, behaved celebrities; the ones who post inappropriate things online.
Her clients include an ex Big Brother star, a disgraced TV presenter, and a woman who once flashed her boobs on X-factor. It’s a challenging job switching between so many personalities, especially when her clients’ accounts start being trolled, and even hacked! As her online life evolves, her real life shrinks and she alienates friends and potential suitors because she’s surgically attached to phone.
My own life has been heavily influenced by social media. Here are the highlights!
- Salt Publishing spots my weekly blog and commissions my debut book Shop Girl Diaries
- My online serialised novel, Spray Painted Bananas, gets a million hits on Wattpad and leads to a two book deal with Harper Impulse.
Oh wait, you might like this one best…
- My fiancé proposes to me in a guest blog!
I guess that means I’m from the ‘write what you know’ school. Not that any of the above happens in the story. Simply that #PleaseRetweet is the result of living and breathing social media since I began my blog in 2008.
Believe me, I have a love / hate relationship with it. I love social media when I’m interacting with readers and authors, I love making silly vine videos and writing my blog. What I hate is when I get distracted by it and instead of working on my next project, I find myself clicking clicking clicking!
#PleaseRetweet is a novel for anyone who is a little bit addicted to their social networks. It’s for the people who love it and the people who love to hate it. I hope it resonates. Most of all I hope it makes you laugh!
